Bomb Explosions Shook Maiduguri After President Jonathan’s Visit

It was reported that 7 loud explosions shook Maiduguri yesterday, March 8, just a few hours after President Goodluck Jonathan went there to get support for his battle against the notorious Islamist sect Boko Haram.
According to witnesses, the explosions did not happen at the same time.
The said bomb explosions happened few minutes after each other.

Witnesses said that the bombings suggest the coordinated strike that used to be the hallmark of Boko Haram, before the military campaign weakened them.
The president spent the night in Maiduguri. It was actually his first trip to the troubled North East place since he became the country’s president.

During his visit, he declined the amnesty call for Boko Haram and urged the region’s elders to help in fighting the insurgents of the sect.
“The blasts in the Jajeri ward of the city occurred about five hours after he left in the afternoon,” witnesses said.

“I heard seven explosions successively. They were huge, but I have no way of knowing whether the explosions hurt anybody,” Jajeri resident Usman Abubakar said.
